Blue Goose Tavern
About This Spot
Stepping into Blue Goose Tavern is like entering a sturdy, familiar nook in Lewiston where time seems to move at its own unhurried rhythm. Nestled on Sabattus Street, this compact bar carries the quiet weight of decades, a witness to the neighborhood's ebbs and flows. The moment you cross its threshold, you’re met with an inviting, if slightly worn, ambiance where the walls hold stories whispered through the years.
The atmosphere here is unpretentious and easygoing — a place where the everyday bustle softens into casual conversation, spontaneous camaraderie, and the occasional burst of off-the-cuff celebration. It might be the warmth of the well-practiced bartenders who know most visitors by name or the loyal crowd gathered around the bar sharing their own lasting memories, but Blue Goose feels less like a business and more like a regularly inhabited living room.
Though the space favors intimacy over extravagance, there’s a vibrant energy in the small details: the quietly humming pinball machine in the corner, the cash-only policy that nods to tradition, and the friendly banter crossing paths with genuine hospitality. Drinks serve as kindling for communal moments—a toast among longtime regulars, new friendships sparked with strangers, all unfolding in this enduring local haven.
For those who appreciate a spot with character rather than polish, Blue Goose offers a quiet assurance. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in at any hour, let your guard down, and find something real beyond the surface. Whether afternoon mellow or late-night buzz, its charm lies in the human connections that shape it—steady, warm, and unmistakably local.

Great bartender and service, spontaneous entire bar a capella singing of "Don't Stop Believing" was a work of art. So glad I came here instead of Buffalo WW even if I am craving greasy food now

My top two for Maine dive bars. Cash only, ATM outside. Same place you leave your attitude, outside. Great drinks, owner onsite most days. This place does NOT disappoint!

The blue Goose! This place has been there for a very, very, very long time, it’s seen Lewiston Maine’s greatest and worse times and it has survived while other bars like pub33, pub 74, Dels & Decks, And others are nothing but a memory. I remember looking over at this little hole in the wall called “The Blue Goose” from across the street while playing pinball and eating at Genes Corner Store, which was a little soda shop style store with a long bar and stools and a grill with big windows looking over to Luigi’s pizza and the goose. Now as an adult I love visiting The Blue Goose not just because of the nostalgia, but because it’s a great watering hole with awesome employees and an amazing owner that also owns Luigi’s next door. The owner keeps the torch going on this marathon of greatness with both of these business’ while other restaurants go out of business and struggle to stay open. Do yourself a favor and visit this place and have a cold tap beer or a very good mixed drink that will leave you wondering why you would ever want to go anywhere else. Well that’s enough for now, and maybe I will see you there while my little pal Bernie and I are visiting for a cold Alligash!

Meg who served me was awesome! She was very friendly and the place had some friendly people. Cost of drinks was ok as well. I was there during the afternoon so older folk was at the bar but I quickly got talking with the regulars and they made the place welcoming. I don't know what the places is like when student are in but I am sure going to come back.

If your looking for a hole in the wall bar, then look no further. The Blue Goose, or just The Goose as it's locally known as, is a good place to go toss a couple back and hang out with some friends. It is not a very big place, but who needs personal space anyway. If you're doing some day drinking, Luigi's is right next door so you can grab a sandwich to refuel the drinking machine.
